What Is Mons Pubis Liposuction?

Mons pubis liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes excess fat from the pubic mound, which is the area above the genitals. It is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia. During the surgery, small incisions are made in inconspicuous areas, and a suction device called a cannula is inserted under the skin to break up and remove unwanted fat deposits. Liposuction helps contour the public area by reducing fullness and creating a flatter, smoother appearance. Patients can return home the same day after this short procedure.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) uses a cannula with  a mechanized vibrating tip, allowing the surgeon to dislodge fat faster with less force. This technique also leads to more precise tissue removal. The powered cannula moves rapidly back and forth to break up fat cells, which are then suctioned by  a vacuum machine. PAL is considered gentler and less traumatic than traditional liposuction.

Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction (VASER)

Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses acoustic energy to break up and liquefy fat before extraction. The VASER probe emits ultrasound waves that selectively target fat cells and preserve blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues. Compared to traditional liposuction, there is less bleeding and bruising. VASER allows the surgeon to sculpt body contours with precision and maximum safety.

Before undergoing mons pubis liposuction, patients have an initial consultation with Dr. Giselle or Dr. Kim. During this appointment, the doctor evaluates the individual’s anatomy, discusses their goals for the procedure, and determines if they are a good candidate. We explain what mons pubis liposuction entails, including details about the incisions, PAL and VASER techniques, and the recovery process.

If the patient decides to move forward, standard pre-operative tests are ordered to ensure that the person doesn’t have health conditions that may increase surgical risks. We recommend stopping certain medications and supplements a few weeks before the procedure to prevent bleeding. Arrangements are also made for a friend or family member to drive the patient home and assist them in the first 24 hours after surgery. Clearance from a primary care physician may be required as well.

Mons Pubis Liposuction Procedure

Anesthesia

Mons pubis liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia. We deliver medication through an intravenous line to make the patient unconscious. The individual remains asleep and pain-free throughout the procedure. To make recovery easier, mons pubis liposuction can also be performed with local anesthesia.

Incisions

Small incisions of less than 0.3 inches are made in the mons pubis area (above the genitalia). The number of cuts varies based on the extent of fat removal required. The incisions are carefully placed in inconspicuous locations to minimize visible scarring after healing.

Removal of Excess Fat

The surgeon uses PAL or VASER liposuction to remove excess fat from the mons pubis. If the first option is selected, the cannula is attached to a power source that enables it to vibrate rapidly. This allows the surgeon to break up and suction unwanted tissue more efficiently. In VASER liposuction, ultrasonic energy melts fat cells before they are extracted. In both techniques, the surgeon moves the cannula back and forth in a controlled motion to sculpt and contour the mons pubis area. Excess tissue is suctioned out through the tube into a collection vessel.

Closing Incisions

Once the optimal fat removal is achieved, the surgeon closes the openings with dissolvable sutures. Steri-Strips or surgical glue may be additionally applied over the incisions.

Compression Garment

At the end of the procedure, a snug compression garment is placed over the treated area. It helps minimize swelling and promotes optimal healing. As advised by the surgeon, the garment is worn for several weeks.

Renuvion Skin Tightening

While liposuction effectively removes fat, it does not address loose skin that can remain afterward. Renuvion is a new technology that tightens this sagging skin. It uses radiofrequency energy to heat the tissue beneath the surface. This causes new collagen production, which firms and tightens the skin from the inside out. As a result, patients benefit from a smoother, more contoured appearance in the pubic region. Renuvion skin tightening is a quick and effective add-on treatment that complements liposuction beautifully.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that tightens the abdomen. It involves removing excess skin and fat from the middle and lower belly and repairing the abdominal muscles. This can help flatten the stomach, tighten lax tissues, and remove stretch marks. The procedure typically requires an incision from hip to hip just above the pubic area. The belly button is repositioned to a more youthful height to make the body look fit and beautiful.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck is a less invasive variation of the full procedure. It focuses on the lower abdomen below the belly button. A smaller incision is made, and excess tissues are removed. This surgery can benefit patients with mild sagging in the lower stomach.

Recovery After Mons Pubis Liposuction

The healing process lasts around 2-4 weeks. Immediately after the procedure, the pubic area is usually swollen, bruised, and tender. Most patients wear a compression garment over the treated zone for 2-3 weeks to help reduce these symptoms.  Pain medication can help manage any pain or discomfort.

Patients are advised to avoid physically demanding movements for nearly one month after the procedure. Normal daily activities can be resumed within 5-7 days, but exercise should be avoided until the incisions heal and all major symptoms disappear.

Complete healing of the mons pubis area takes around 6 weeks. However, residual swelling may persist for up to 3 months. Patients can address this issue by icing the area, keeping the compression garment on, and avoiding salt. Gentle lymphatic massages may also help improve circulation and drainage.

Candidates for Mons Pubis Liposuction

When considering candidates for the mons pubis liposuction, there are several groups to take into account:

Women who have excess fat in the pubic area that is resistant to diet and exercise. This tissue can create an undesirable bulge and affect self-confidence.

Women who have given birth. Childbearing may sometimes leave patients with excess fat accumulation in the mons pubis that does not return to its pre-pregnancy state. Liposuction can be used to address this problem.

Women who are near their ideal weight. Patients should maintain a stable body mass for 6-12 months before undergoing this plastic surgery. If they gain weight after the procedure, the results will be undermined.

Women with realistic expectations and good health. Patients must understand the potential outcomes and limitations of liposuction. They should also have good health without conditions that may increase surgical risks.

I just had ChinXpress awake liposuction procedure with Exert Bodysculpt. I want to start off by saying it was a great experience! Best team ever:) I was nervous about what the pain was going to be like because it is an awake procedure. I was pleasantly surprised, there was no pain, and my recovery so far has been great!!!
